Quality of our woods

With the oak dining tables, there is a choice of four types of finishes: White Wash, Smoked, Natural & Charcoal. The walnut dining tables always have a classic transparent finish.

Our oak dining tables are made from high quality, durable European oak. In oak there are different types of quality, where we always use ‘1a and rustic 2/3’ quality which is the highest possible. The oak tables are finished with different color finishes where they are first stained, then primed and then finished with two components. Because of these factors, each oak dining table is free of sapwood and knots, does not require impregnation and is easy to maintain.

Our walnut dining tables are made from high quality, durable American walnut wood. In walnut wood there are different types of quality, where we always use ‘Super Prime’ quality which is the highest possible. The walnut tables are finished with a transparent color finish where they are first stained, then primed and then finished with two components. Because of these factors, each walnut dining table is free of sapwood and knots, does not require impregnation and is easy to maintain.

Characteristics

Humidity

Wood is a natural product that can shrink and expand. This is the result of varying moisture content. We call this the working of the wood. The drier the air, the greater the chance that the wood will shrink and crack. The more humid the air, the greater the chance that the wood will expand. This is a natural effect of the wood and cannot be remedied. However, you can minimize the wood’s movement by ensuring good humidity. As long as the relative humidity remains between 50-60%, the shrinking, cracking and expansion of the wood will be limited and the wood will be able to function normally. You can measure the air humidity with a humidity meter, also called a hygrometer

If the humidity is too low you can add water (vapor) to the air. This can be done by hanging water trays on the radiators so the water vapor spreads throughout the house. In winter, to maintain the right humidity level with the central heating on, about 4 to 6 liters of water must be evaporated. The most effective thing to do when the humidity in the house is not good is to install a humidifier. For already in the winter months the humidity is at its lowest.

Light

Wood will always discolor over time, the extent to which is different for each type of wood. The daylight in which the furniture is placed will determine the final color.

Heat

Never place wooden furniture too close to a heat source (e.g. radiators), this can cause cracks and warping. Also never place hot objects (pans, mugs, etc.) directly on the wood, this can cause white circles that are impossible to remove. Also do not place damp glasses directly on the wood, the moisture can cause black irremovable rings. Always use coasters.

Maintenance

How do I maintain my wooden table?

Our wooden furniture is protected with a two-component lacquer. Varnished wood can normally be cleaned with a soft, damp cloth, provided it is wiped with a dry cloth. When the wood is finished with a matt varnish, grease stains can be very noticeable. These stains can be removed by using a little soap. If these grease stains are stubborn, they can also be removed with benzene. Never use maintenance products with an abrasive effect. We also strongly advise against using wax-based products.

Note: a lacquer layer is sensitive to scratches. We therefore recommend that you be extra careful with the furniture. The damage is irreparable. For advice on stains, we refer you to our customer service.

How do I keep my wooden table beautiful?

Always use coasters and placemats when using a wooden table. This will prevent moisture or rings from soaking into the table. The moisture can cause black circles that are impossible to remove.

Never place wooden furniture too close to a heat source (e.g. radiators), this can cause cracks and warping. Never place hot objects (pans, mugs, etc.) directly on the wood, as these can cause white irremovable rings.

Useful information

Can I place the wooden tables outside?

Our wooden tables are not suitable for outdoor use, but we have recently added a new collection of outdoor tables by popular demand! In addition to marble garden tables, we also offer granite garden tables, both of which are perfectly resistant to being placed outside. Check out the outdoor collection here: outdoor tables
